A couple of days late but I couldn’t stop thinking about my favourite look from this year’s Met Gala. Janelle Monae, an American R&B and soul musician, took my best dressed award for the 2014 Met Gala.

Janelle Monae is wearing clothing by Tadashi Shoji, Jimmy Choo shoes, Rodo clutch, and Kwiat jewels.
I’ve come across my fair few designers that take my eye whenever I look at the red carpets but I have never been so amazed by someone I’d somehow never heard of before. Tadashi Shoji, first debuted his collection at New York Fashion Week in 2007 and is known for his red carpet gowns and evening wear. This year, he seemed to break away from his classic hues and looks to bring together a look so different and so “Janelle Monae”.
Tadashi Shoji would be familiar to those in the US as he has dressed the stars and appeared on the catwalks but now he’s caught my attention and I feel like his biggest fan!
Shoji’s latest fall collection features expert fabric cutting and embroidery as Moorish architecture was the particular focus for this collection. He said that the geographical direction of the collection moved from the West to the East, from Africa to Europe. When I think of Europe, I think of majesty, costumes made with delicate fabrics, simple elegance. Shoji caught my eye with these elegant yet edgy looks from his fall 2014 Collection! Here’s a slideshow of my favourites…
What are your thoughts on Janelle Monae’s red carpet look?
And, what’s your favourite from his latest collection? I’m loving the long black dress number!
